Teachers,
school support personnel
protest
at the National
Conference of Mayors Sunday
Teachers and school support personnel turned out for a protest at the
National Conference of Mayors Sunday. Their rally cry,
"Keep Your Promise - Honor Our
Contract."
UTD members spent time
preparing for the Sunday protest at UTD Headquarters on Thursday and
Friday last week. They turned out to make posters to share their
sentiments with the local community and the Mayors attending the
four-day conference at the InterContinental Hotel in Miami. Many of the
posters criticized the School Board and Superintendent Crew for recent
cuts to jobs and the threat of breaking our contract. Local news media
and the Miami Herald covered the event as well. |

The School Board meets Monday, June 23 in Executive Session and then
again on Wednesday, June 25 for a Special School Board meeting. "We are
expecting a packed auditorium," said UTD President, Karen Aronowitz.
Teachers and support personnel have been watching this issue very
closely. Aronowitz added, "We cannot allow the budget to be balanced on
the backs of employees who find it more difficult each day to work and
live in Miami-Dade County. The Superintendent and School Board must
honor our contract!”
