President Aronowitz warns prospective teachers,
"Stay Away from Miami-Dade Public Schools"

"AFT and all our members have to do everything within our power to fend off attempts by legislators and others who seek to diminish our collective bargaining rights.

In Florida, the economic downturn is being used as an excuse by our government leaders to violate negotiated contracts.

In Miami, our superintendent Rudy Crew --  who was recently named Superintendent of the Year -- has unilaterally cancelled negotiated salary increases blaming the legislature.

While they cut our raises and health benefits, my district has the chutzpah to send recruiters as far away as Madrid, Spain with the message, "come to Miami, it's a great place to teach."

I ask you to fight against those who undermine our contracts and specifically I ask you to tell any teacher and education major --
STAY AWAY FROM MIAMI-DADE UNTIL THEY RESTORE AND RESPECT OUR NEGOTIATED CONTRACT!"
