Have they crossed the line?

Last night the Superintendent with support from five school board members (Greer, Stinson, Barrera, Karp and Holloway), was given the authority to cancel our raises by re-opening our contract or by declaring fiscal urgency. We will continue to stand and fight for our contractually agreed upon salary increases. Our first demand is to work this situation out, but we will continue to fight them for breaking our contract which includes our negotiated salaries.

Within the next few days, if we are called to the bargaining table by the district we will go with our ideas for efficiencies in-hand. Many of our members have forwarded ideas for cost saving measures over the past several months. Today, we will launch a LeaderNet Survey to our members for any additional ideas as we move forward.

If the Superintendent declares fiscal urgency, according to Florida Statute we will have 14 days to bargain, not necessarily consecutive days. If there is no agreement the issue would go to a Special Master. In the meantime, step raises scheduled to go into effect may be delayed -- dependent upon the actions of the Superintendent. We do not agree that he has the authority to delay these increases.

Members who want to know what they can do:

Call School Board Members (305-995-1334) - tell them to have the Superintendent do the right thing and honor our contract.

Participate in the UTD LeaderNet Survey on Efficiency- coming to them via email and posted on the web by the end of the day (6/26)

The battle for justice is on to honor our contract.  Click here to give your input
