A Moving Target...
Bargaining Session held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008

UTD President Aronowitz along with her Executive Board and over 150 Union members spent four hours at the bargaining table on Wednesday and will return for another round on Thursday, July 3rd.  What started off as a budget gap of $72 million ($47 million to fund UTD salaries) turned into $113 million within a matter of the first few minutes of the session.  "It is beyond frustrating when we never seem to get the real numbers from the district.  We have given them literally millions of dollars in suggestions for efficiencies, and they keep raising the number," said President Aronowitz,  UTD Attorney, Libby Navarette said, "We know you have the money, you have to find it to fund salaries."  From time to time UTD Members attending the session would shake their heads in disbelief or express their frustration with audible sighs. The district agreed with UTD on Tuesday to establish three subcommittees to help speed the process along while crunching numbers.  Aronowitz ended the session addressing her members saying, "It's like a bouncing ball and the ball is now in the District's court.  We will not give up!"
